NORWEGIAN WHIPPET CLUB 29th-30th June 2024
Firstly thank you for inviting me to judge this your Whippet Club with Knut Bluetecher I was thrilled to be able to accept and know that I will thoroughly enjoy the experience. I have been involved with whippets since the early eighties. Starting by buying a puppy from the Shalfleet kennels and bought purely as a pet. We had lost our labrador cross two years before and were looking for a small but sporty breed to fill the gap which would fit in with our new human family. We could not have chosen better. Susie entered and changed our lives. Shown as requested by the Shalfleet kennel to pleasing success mainly at Open show level winning many BOB’s along the way. She was followed by a racing bred bitch, Pepes Princess, who became the granddam of our first champion. Spyanfly He’s Trooper. His biggest win was winning the dog CC at Crufts 1990 alongside Ch. Nutshell of Nevedith where she went BOB and then onto Reserve BIS.
I was gifted Selinko Celestial Star, again a pet bitch, soon after and mated her to Ch.Nimrodel Wanderer which produced Ch.Spyanfly Say No More who became the Best In Show winner of the Houndshow 1993 and from him came three generations of Cruft CC winners. (He himself won the Res. Dog CC from the veteran class at the age of 10 years.) These were: Int.Nor.Dan.Ch.Spyanfly Say It’s Bardo (Top Hound 2004) Crufts Group3, out of Millwold Going For Gold of Spyanfly, her daughter Ch.Spyanfly Sharon Stone 2008 sired by Ch.Fullerton Dream Mover and her niece Ch.Spyanfly Shake It On Down 2013 sired by Spyanfly Set In Stone out of Ch.Tannis Bay Sophies Choice with Spyanfly. I have also over the years enjoyed judging the breed around the world meeting more wonderful specimens of our breed and new lifelong friends.
